If you or a loved one has recently been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or if you’re an educator or caregiver looking to enhance your understanding, this non-accredited course is for you. It’s designed for anyone wanting to gain deeper insights into ASD, offering practical strategies to help you create more supportive environments.
This course is ideal for those who do not require nationally recognised training but wish to learn how to better support individuals with ASD in their everyday life or work.
Course Content
This course offers practical strategies and insights into ASD to help you create more supportive environments. It covers key areas, including:
- Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Learn about how ASD affects individuals differently and gain insights into the unique traits associated with it.
- Communication Styles: Explore the various ways individuals with ASD communicate, including verbal, non-verbal, and alternative methods.
- Sensory Processing Differences: Understand sensory sensitivities and learn how to create environments that promote comfort and reduce stress.
- Social Skills and Interaction: Discover the social challenges individuals with ASD may face and find techniques to support their social development.
- Support Strategies: Develop practical approaches to creating structured, inclusive environments, focusing on routines and predictability.
Each module includes interactive exercises and quizzes to help you apply what you’ve learned right away. We’ve also designed this course to be sensory-friendly, ensuring that the learning experience is accessible and comfortable for individuals with sensory sensitivities.

Course Duration:
Self-Paced: Most participants complete the course within 4-6 hours, depending on their prior experience and knowledge. You can complete it over multiple sessions, with your progress saved automatically.
Students have up to six (6) months to complete all learning and assessment activities. If the course is not completed within this timeframe, enrolment may be disabled or cancelled.

Participants must have significant communication skills, be able to read and understand forms and to make accurate reports and the ability to record details of children and young people at risk and to make reports using handwritten skills and computer skills. You have a maximum of 6 months to complete this unit Students must have access to a computer, smart phone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online studies and practical assessment. Students are required to upload two (2) videos of themselves participating in simulated scenarios to complete the practical assessment component

Course requirements
Before you start your online course, you will need to make sure you have supplied us with the following information: If you haven’t supplied us with your USI or AVETMISS data, you must complete the required information before continuing. The flexible format of the course means that you can log in as many times as required to complete the course – you do not need to complete the course all in one sitting. Learning content is provided in an online format within the course. The assessment component consist of multiple choice questions, written questions, student self-video assessments and incident report forms. Please note that all case studies within this course are fictional. As a wide variety of job descriptions and workplace environments exist, case studies may not always cover all types of possible scenarios encountered within your job role or scope of work. However, these case studies should allow you to apply your decision making and duty of care responsibility across the board, when recognising and reporting children and young people at risk. For our online courses, we recommend that you use Google Chrome as your browser, as other browsers, such as Internet Explorer, may not display the multimedia content of the course. If you are not currently using Google Chrome please switch browsers before continuing. Work your way through each of the sections below. All sections must be completed. Please allow a minimum of 3 business days where all course requirements have been successfully met for a statement of attainment to be issued.
A certificate will not be issued until all online work has been completed and an Assessor has conducted the final checks.
