Course Overview

This very interesting and challenging course is suitable for all First Aiders looking to improve their skills and those that must have this qualification for their employment. An example may be a workplace First Responder, Rescue Diver, Dive Master, Outdoor recreation workers, Life Guards.

Course Details

Purpose: Gain further knowledge and first aid skills on an adult or child casualty when help is required. These unit of competency describes the skills & knowledge required to maintain Australian workplace to specifically deal with injuries, accidents and illness that occur in the workplace. This course is essential for people who are responsible for workplace Occupational clinics or first aid rooms as listed in the first aid code of practice

Course Format:
Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

 

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 24 Hours
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 8 Hours

Assessment: practical continuous assessments during face-to-face and a short theory exam.

HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid
HLTAID016 – Manage first aid services and resources
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
HLTAID015 – Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
HLTAID010 – Provide basic emergency life support

It is recommended this course be renewed every 36 months in line with industry standards. Locate the most current training package at training.gov.au Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the statement of attainment:

PDF emailed valid for three years from the date of issue.

Physical Requirements
It is important to note that there are physical standards which relate to the level of performance required when undertaking accredited training. The HLTAID competency standards require a level of physical ability to provide resuscitation and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life.

One requirement of this course is the student must be assessed as physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor and on a CPR infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface.

There can be no exceptions to these Australian Government requirements that are clearly written into the Training Package. Therefore, students who are unable to satisfy the physical requirements of the course cannot be deemed competent or issued with a statement of attainment, even if the qualification is a necessary part of their employment conditions.

Course Assessment

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. single and two-rescuer CPR, using a bag-valve-mask, select and insert an appropriate airway adjunct, manage oxygen equipment and use an AED to deliver at least one shock)
  • Place a casualty into the recovery position
  • Complete a first aid incident report form based on a simulated first aid scenario
  • Perform CPR on an infant
  • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
  • Manage a casualty with asthma
  • Manage a choking casualty
  • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning
  • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
  • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
  • Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain
  • Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)
  • Coordinate a multiple casualty incident
  • Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed and provide oxygen
  • Complete a first aid incident report form based on the life-threatening bleed scenario
  • Maintain resuscitation equipment
  • Conduct a workplace risk assessment
  • Develop a first aid response plan including strategies for management of incidents
  • Use a first-aid checklist to service a workplace first aid kit for supplies’ replacement and equipment maintenance

Theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.

Course requirements

There are no prerequisite, entry, work-placement, licensing or certification requirements for this course.

Please note: CPR must be demonstrated on the floor for 2 minutes

The above training courses provided to General Practitioners may be recognised as Professional Development and can be used to meet formal requirements of the medical registration.

Enrolment information

Please notify us of at the time of booking if you have a disability or any reason why you may not be able to kneel on the floor to carry out resuscitation practice, tie bandages or if you have any special needs regarding taking the written exam at the end of the day.

What to wear

You will need to wear comfortable casual clothing as we will spend a substantial amount of time kneeling or lying on the floor, bandaging and other practical applications of Senior First Aid. Writing material is not necessary – just bring a pen.

What to bring

Proof of identity: NSW Drivers License, Passport, Birth Certificate, Student Identity with Photo. See the guidelines.

Provision for Lunch: All training locations are located close to shopping centres or a cafe. If you do not want to buy your lunch please bring it with you.
